No Start Date in Sight

I just wanted to take a second to say I have no thoughts on a realistic start date for the blog. It seems almost certain that it won't be before July 2016, before a variety of reasons. If someone is looking to get involved in the project, please let me know.

If you are interested in some of the things keeping me from the blog, you can check out my most recent writing on the Music Manumit Lawcast.

See us in May 2014?

Since the seeds of Netizen Empowerment Federation were sown in January 2012, a lot has transpired. We are currently working on incorporating. However, the business side of things (incorporation, finding interns, etc) has taken a lot more time than initially anticipated. There are a lot of reasons for this and they don't all have to do with me. In fact, most of them don't have to do with me. Other incorporators have had health problems, family problems and serious housing issues. But, we're still plugging along, trying to get things going.

For my part, I've learned to expect delay. I wouldn't be shocked if 2014 turns into 2015. We've got four sites that have been going for years and we need to make sure we keep those going. Once we have a solid foundation for the future on those sites, then we can begin to expand. Please don't lose hope in us. We haven't.

Expect us in May!

We've had phenomenal response to our writer listing on idealist.org. So much, in fact, that going through the resumes is going to take a substantial amount of time. We think that, at this point, it's more important to get a good writer in place than to toss up content.

With that said, we're going to take the next three months to get the groundwork sufficiently laid. See you then!

Welcome to the World Culture Blog

Welcome to the World Culture Blog. The World Culture Blog is a member of the Netizen Empowerment Federation, which is currently striving to become a 501(c)(3).

Like all 501(c)(3) organizations, we are trying to do our small part to change the world. We hope that by giving people a glimpse into the cities, states and countries around the world that we can promote tolerance and understanding among the varied people of the world. Our hope is that we can also bring joy to the world through interesting stories and exciting adventures.

Because of our roots in United States, there will be a heavy US-focus to the blog, though certainly not exclusively. This focus is in line with our goal of tolerance and understanding. Due to differing immigrant populations and different topography, the US is a diverse place. The Midwest speaks derogatorily of "coasties" and the those on the coast speak of "fly-over states."

It has always been this way. We fought a geographically-based civil war, after all. However, just because something has always been does not mean it is not something we should change.

LOGISTICS

For the time-being, expect monthly posts. We are actively seeking volunteer authors. You can contact whitfield@opensourceplayground.org if you are interested in writing an article for World Culture Blog. Once we have more authors, we may move to weekly or daily articles. Once we receive some funding through donations, we may be able to pay our authors for their work.

We will work on additional ways for you to donate in the future. For now, you can donate through flattr.
